Cortec has created a packaging film that, certified by USDA, is 100% bio-based, and is compostable in an industrial-grade facility according to TÜV Austria.
“Eco Works 100 can decompose alongside organic waste at an industrial composting facility without eco-toxicity to the soil. This harmlessness was demonstrated by growing sunflower seeds in a mixture of 50% blank compost and 50% compost made from Eco Works 100 resin,” said the company.
“After two weeks, the pot containing Eco Works compost experienced a nearly identical germination rate and seedling growth yield compared to the control. Results from the 25% Eco Works compost sample were also extremely good, passing the requirements for ASTM D6400.”
Industrial composting, according to TUV Austria, involves temperatures between 55 and 60°C, and should not be confused with conditions in home composting.
