Recom has created a 15W ac-dc power supply range that meet a wide range of international specifications including those for medical use.
RACM15E-K supplies come in 80 x 23.8 x 22mm open-frame form with Molex connectors (photo below), or in a 83 x 26.4 x 29.5mm IP20 enclosure with push-in terminals and a DIN rail clip (right) – they are 1.5 DIN modules wide.
All types are single-output, with different versions giving a choice of 3.3 (12W only), 5, 12, 15, 24 or 30Vdc.
They are specified over inputs of 100 to 240Vac, 50 to 60Hz, but will operate over 80V to 275Vac, 47 to 63Hz, or 120 to 370Vdc. No load current is typically less than 100mW. Peak efficiency is between 78 and 86%, improving as output voltage increases.
Temperature range -40 to +85°C, derating from 50°C ambient in still air.
Protections include over-voltage, over-load and short-circuit. In over-load, the parts go constant-current, and they enter a self-resetting hiccough mode for short circuits.
Safety specifications include IEC/EN62368-1, IEC/EN60335-1, IEC61558, and IEC60601-1/ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, they they are medically rated 2MOPP, over-voltage category II (OVCII) to 5,000m altitude, plus they meet ‘BF’ touch current.
They can be used in OVCIII environments up to 3,000m according to IEC61558-2-16 and IEC60335-1.
Conducted EMI standard EN55032 Class B is met with a floating load – for PELV installations an external 0.22µF capacitor and 45mH common-mode choke are required, with a custom choke (RACMC45-500/UF9.8) in the pipeline.
Calculated to MIL-HDBK-217 (ground benign environment), MTBF is over one million hours, and there is a three year warranty.
Applications are foreseen in industrial automation, measurement equipment, medical homecare devices, building automation and household equipment.
