ZeroEyes, a U.S.-based company established by a team of military veterans, has created artificial intelligence (AI) technology for surveillance camera systems that reportedly detects visible firearms in real time.
Developed in response to the mass shootings that occurred in 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, the technology identifies firearms on school grounds in an effort to enhance security measures.

Capable of detecting “three broad firearm classifications with a minimum of 300 subclassifications” and “at least 2,000 permutations,” the AI system sends an alert to a control center operated by former law enforcement officers and military veterans whenever a firearm is detected by the surveillance cameras on campus.
In the event that the threat is verified, additional alerts are subsequently sent to school officials and local authorities, thus allowing them to respond almost instantly to potential threats and potentially intercepting those threats.
The technology is currently in use in 30 states throughout the U.S.
