LFG expands into the Southeast U.S. with its fifth operating division, Alabama based-Halsey Foodservice.

Virginia-based independent distributors holding group Legacy Food Group (LFG) acquired Halsey Foodservice (Halsey). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Madison, AL-based Halsey is a family-owned distributor of food products and the last founding member of CODE — a distributor purchasing group.

Halsey President and CEO Cecilia Halsey organized expansion efforts to accommodate business growth for the company, including the construction of a 260,000-square-foot distribution center (DC). The DC includes a meat processing center for the company’s Fresh Meat Division and produce preparation for the Produce Division.

“Joining Legacy Food Group instantly provides us with the support to expand our business and spur new sales growth,” Halsey COO and Senior EVP Terry Giles said in an Aug. 13 news release. “It’s a win-win for us; we get to keep the operating autonomy that resonates so strongly with our customer base while enjoying the benefits that come from group collaboration.”

Halsey will retain its company name and current management team. The company will remain autonomous to LFG and perform as an operating Division of LFG.

“Halsey is the perfect partner for us to enter the growing Southeast foodservice region; Halsey brings more than 140 years of rich history and family legacy, high-quality staff and sales team, and strong exclusive brands and service concepts that resonate with operators,” LFG CEO Steve Push said. “We will continue our strategic plan to bring together independent foodservice distributors interested in the dynamic growth that comes from group collaboration, benefits of scale, and shared resources.”

This acquisition marks LFG’s fifth acquired operating division, which also includes: Keck’s Food Service; M&V Provisions; Thomsen Foodservice; and Best Mexican Foods.
