Qualcomm and Arm are reported to have approached Intel with a view to buying parts of Intel’s product group, and Qualcomm is said to have offered a takeover of the whole company, but these offers have been rebuffed.
Intel was awarded $19.5 billion of Chips Act money but nothing has been paid out with reports of officials holding back payments until Intel makes more progress on its fab-building programme.
Intel has undertaken to spend $100 billion plus on new fabs in Ohio, New Mexico, Arizona and Oregon.
