Two major Chinese car brands are said to be aiming to achieve the goal by 2026.

The project represents an acceleration of the China government’s domestication goal for locally produced chip content in cars – an earlier goal set by the government for this year was for 25% of the chips used in China-manufactured cars to be locally sourced.

The first cars to meet the 100% goal will be the newest models to enter volume production next year.

The difficulty for the China car-makers is that their top-of-the-range cars use Nvidia GPUs and Qualcomm processors for cockpit features and ADAS which are difficult to replace with local parts.
