Industrial Internet-of-Things capabilities
Opta stands out for its ability to streamline automation processes—whether it’s integrating with load cells or vision systems, managing production flow, or enabling label printing via NTP. Real-time monitoring is made possible through local HMIs, Bluetooth® LE, or remote dashboards via Arduino Cloud. It even uses machine learning to detect anomalies for predictive maintenance, increasing operational reliability and efficiency.
Its communication capabilities are built for industrial standards, collecting field sensor data through reliable protocols such as Modbus, making it ideal for energy monitoring and system management. At the edge, the dual-core STM32H747XI ARM® Cortex®-M7 and M4 enable real-time operations and AI-based decision-making, minimizing cloud dependency for faster, localized responses.
Connectivity is versatile across all Opta models. Ethernet comes standard, while RS485 and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth® LE variants expand remote and protocol-level access. For physical device actuation, Opta includes robust 250V 10A relays – perfect for controlling conveyors or aborting machinery safely.
Security
Security is foundational to Opta’s design. At the device level, features like anti-tampering measures, unique device IDs, encrypted communications, and a secure bootloader protect against unauthorized access. Communication security includes full X.509 compliance, and integration with Arduino Cloud adds two-factor authentication and secure firmware updates.
Programming is flexible and developer-friendly. Users can choose between the classic Arduino environment or IEC 61131-3-compliant languages like Ladder, FBD, ST, SFC, and IL using the Arduino PLC IDE. Inputs function as standard Arduino pins, while relays are controlled using simple digitalWrite commands. Remote management is just as seamless, with connectivity to Arduino Cloud or third-party services supporting OTA updates, alerts, remote access, and even offline operation when needed.
For industrial environments, the Opta is DIN rail-compatible, allowing easy installation and retrofitting. It comes in three model variants:
- Opta Lite (Ethernet + USB-C®)
- Opta RS485 (adds RS485 half-duplex)
- Opta WiFi (includes RS485 plus Wi-Fi®/Bluetooth® LE)
To expand its capabilities, Opta supports snap-on expansion modules such as:
- Ext D1608E – 16 digital inputs and 8 electromagnetic relays
- Ext D1608S – 16 digital inputs and 8 solid-state relays
- Ext A0602 – 8 analog I/Os or RTD inputs for voltage, current, or temperature sensing
Whether you’re in process, hybrid, or discrete manufacturing, Opta helps unlock the power of process data. Its integration with Arduino Cloud provides a holistic view of operations, making it a smart choice for OEM retrofitting. Even legacy equipment with minimal wiring can be upgraded with Industry 4.0 features—enhancing SCADA, MES, or HMI systems without requiring re-certification.
Applications are broad and varied, including pump control, oven management, asset connectivity, packaging automation, door control, and energy monitoring. No matter the scenario, Opta enhances existing systems affordably and securely, offering:
Smart I/O with micro PLC flexibility
- IEC or Arduino/C++ programming options
- Industrial-grade reliability, developed with Finder
- Cost-effective hardware with software included
- Up to 80% lower deployment cost and three times faster setups
