The overwhelming choice of the big customers for a 2nm foundry process has been TSMC whose 2nm process has shown good yields and will have capacity to run 50k wpm by the end of this year and 120-130k wpm by the end of next year.

Apple, MediaTek, Qualcomm, AMD and Broadcom have signed up with TSMC for 2nm.

It is reported that Intel now feels it has a better chance of getting major clients to choose its 14A process which may have advantages over TSMC because of Intel’s early move into high-NA EUV processing.

Whatever Intel decides on 18A, it will still fulfil its 18A foundry arrangements with Microsoft and Amazon which are relatively small.

The case for stopping marketing 18A to foundry customers is expected to be put to the Intel board this month.
