Part of the company’s ACIM (appliance, commercial and industrial motors) division, the Nidec Qingdao Industrial Park has 75 production lines, a 8,500m2 R&D cente with eight laboratories, and an automated warehouse.
“The site is a result of the integration of two long-standing facilities, and consolidates more than twenty years of presence that the company has in Qingdao,” it said. “Through the integration of motors and electronics production under the same roof, the site is creating synergies across processes, expertise and logistics.”
“Qingdao Campus is a continuation of the path we’ve walked for decades in China, where ACIM already operates four major facilities and employs nearly 2,300 people,” said Nidec ACIM CEO Katia Drusian.
The campus is located within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Demonstration Zone.
“This was designed to foster proximity, not only in geographic terms, but also in the way we operate,” said Nidec Global Appliance president Alberto Casnati. “Being closer to our customers enables us to better understand their needs and respond with greater speed and flexibility. Our focus remains on serving key industries such as home appliances, air conditioning, food service, and refrigeration.”
Manufacturing for ACIM’s parent division Nidec Appliance Automotive is also on the cards.
“We are currently getting ready to host electronic production for the automotive sector, but even beyond,” said Nidec Appliance Automotive CEO Valter Taranzano. “In this sense, we plan to start new rounds of discussions and collaborations with the government aiming to generate additional opportunities for our business as well as positive impact within Qingdao and China.”
At Electronica late last year, Renesas revealed an 8-in-1 electric vehicle power axle developed with Nidec.
