Rutronik Kontron K4021 industrial PC motherboard

“K4021-U mSTX features an integrated neural processing unit for AI acceleration. This enables up to 20 times higher performance per watt for computationally intensive applications such as image processing, automation and digital signage,” according to Rutronik, which is stocking the board. “The motherboards are designed for 24/7 operation and can be used from 0°C to 60°C.”

Up to four simultaneous 4K60 HDR displays, or two 8K displays, can be driven and there are four M.2 slots for storage and Wi-Fi modules,

Interfaces include GPIO, two COM ports (one is an option), Thunderbolt 4 and USB 3.2 Gen2.

There are two board options, one with an Ultra 5 125U and the other with an Ultra 7 155U. Both are backed by up to 96Gbyte of SODIMM DDR5-5600 memory across two slots.

Software supports is for Windows 10 IoT (LTSC), Windows 11, Windows 11 IoT (LTSC) or 64bit Linux. There is no legacy operating system support, and only UEFI installation (no MBR installation), according to Kontron.

Power can be input in two ways: At between 9 and 24V into a rear barrel port or an internal 4pin Micro-Fit, or at 20V into a rear USB-C PD connector.

Kontron smartcase s502To turn it into a 36 x 147 x 165mm industrial PC, Rutronik offers Kontron’s ‘Smartcase S502’, a case kit (left) with front and rear USB that can stand horizontally or vertically on a flat surface and has options for VESA or wall mounting.

This includes a fan-heatsink combination that is good for 15W processors, or 28W in more limited conditions.

Applications are foreseen in point-of-sale, information kiosks, digital signage and medical environments.

The boards are made n Germany.
