Most engineers are likely familiar with the adage “you can’t manage what you can’t measure.” With this in mind, and alarmed by the threats posed by climate change, a group of venture capitalists established a new tool to help companies measure progress in reaching greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.
The Speed & Scale platform tracks 10 objectives and 55 key results relevant to the attainment of net zero emissions by 2050. Access to transparent metrics will help a wide range of enterprises to identify the sources of their own emissions and arm them with the tools to create a data-driven reduction strategy. Agricultural, industrial, power sector and transportation-related emissions trends are tracked and remedial investment, technological and political actions are recommended.
The online tool also includes an action guide with short lists of the most critical steps to take, both at an individual level and within companies, cities, states and at the national level.
