HBK U93A force sensor

Called U93A, and a more accurate update on the U93 sensors, there are two basic versions: 35mm diameter for 1 to 10kN, and 54mm diameter for 20 to 50kN.

“Its small dimensions and dynamic properties make it an alternative to piezoelectric force sensors,” according to the company. “The mechanical connection is straightforward and secure due to the flange screw connections on both sides. The sensor has an IP68 protection rating, making it suitable for outdoor use as well.”

Inside is a resistive bridge, giving the bare units a mV/V output, to which can be added external interfaces that produce IO-Link, 0-10V or 4-20mA outputs. The amplifiers can be factory-calibrated to particular sensors.

Relative reproducibility and repeatability errors are 0.1%, non-linearity 0.2% and creepage is 0.1%.

Bessel and Butterworth filtering with cut-off frequency between 0.001 to 1,000 Hz can be implemented and up to 21 linearisation points can be accommodated, or coefficients of cubic or quadratic equations.

Processing can include producing mmaximum, minimum, peak-to-peak and mean values.

The body is welded from stainless steel according to DIN standards, said HBK, and the cable is compatible with drag chains and resistant to “almost all operating fluids”.

Applications are foreseen in laboratory based tests, and tough environments such vehicle engines or moving machinery.
