Chinese computer maker Mekotronics has built an Arm-based PC around Rockchip’s 8nm 64bit octo-core 3588 processor, which has four Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 processors.
Integrated is 64kbyte of L1 instruction cache, 64byte L1 data cache and 512byte L2 cache for each Cortex-A76, then 32byte L1 instruction cache, 32byte L1 data cache and 128byte L2 cache for each Cortex-A55. 3Mbyte L3 cache is shared between all eight processors.
Called R58X and designed to run Android 12, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 or Debian 11, the Mekotronics design adds a maximum of 16Gbyte of DDR memory through a quad channel external memory interface that can handle LPDDR4, LPDDR4X or LPDDR5.
There is also an eMMC Interface.
The embedded 3d GPU is compatible with OpenGLES 1.1, 2.0, and 3.2, OpenCL up to 2.2 and Vulkan1.2, and there is a 2d hardware engine. And there is a neural processing unit supporting INT4, INT8, INT16 and FP16 – up to 6Top/s is available and Mekotronics claims compatibility with frameworks including TensorFlow, MXNet, PyTorch and Caffe.
Other hardware engines include H.265 and VP9 decode (8K 60frame/s), H.264 decoder (8K 30frame/s), AV1 decoder (4K 60frame/s), H.264 and H.265 encode (8K 30frame/s) and JPEG encoder-decode.
The there is a hardware image signal processor that can operate on 48Mpixel and can implement algorithms such as HDR, 3A, LSC, 3DNR, 2DNR, sharpening, dehaze, fisheye correction and gamma correction.
There are two video outputs: HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, which can display different content on two screens simultaneously, and an HDMI input.
Interfaces include dual Gbit Ethernet, GPIO, RS232, RS485, PCIe for internal SSD, USB 3.0, USB2.0, USB Type-C and Wi-Fi 6 (2.4 and 5GHz).
Housing is metal and the operating range is -40 to 80°C, and components are industrial quality, said the company.
Digital bulletin terminal, digital signage media player, IoT gateway, industrial PC, edge computer, and face recognition are amongst potential applications.
