Infineon TLE989x TLE988x motor driver block

  • TLE988x are two-phase (H-bridge) devices
  • TLE989x are three-phase devices

“The ICs are AEC Q-100 qualified, making them ideal for automotive brushed dc and brushless dc motor control applications in body, comfort and thermal management applications,” the company claimed. “The product families additionally offer approximately 60% more processing power compared to the established TLE987x product family, and provide functional safety and cybersecurity functions which are becoming increasingly important for oil pumps in thermal management systems in electric vehicles.”

The design aim is ISO 26262 (ASIL B) compliance, and only some variants have built-in cybersecurity.

Dual flash is included, with variants offering up to 32kbyte in Flash0 plus up to 256kbyte in Flash1.

An algorithm is included to compensates for the variation of mosfet parameters by automatically adjusting gate current to achieve the required switching. The company claims this allows shorter dead-times to be used, better optimisation of slew-rates for EMI, and ruggedness against lot-to-lot and manufacturer-to-manufacture mosfet variations.

Eevaluation boards and kits are available, “as well as several tools for simulation, configuration and visualisation”, said Infineon. And there is an example 150W coolant pump design.

Supporting software includes automotive ASPICE level qualified motor control libraries with field-orientated control algorithms.

Max junction operating temperature is 175°C.

7 x 7mm TQFP packages will be available first, followed by two variants in 64pad LQFP package in December.
