Germany is the first country outside the U.S. to receive such jamming-resistant, advanced M-Code GPS receivers, said the company. Providing precise geolocation and positioning information, they are aimed at “contested operational environments”.
The small, high-performance GPS receiver provides assured Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) for applications where size and weight and power are critical factors, for example handheld devices, ground vehicles, and unmanned aerial systems.
Compatible with the advanced military M-Code GPS signal, this makes MPE-M hardened against signal jamming and spoofing, along with the provision of cryptographic security. They have the same form factor as their predecessors, simplifying the M-Code upgrade process.
The receivers were delivered via the U.S’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process, a way for the U.S. government’s to approve the transfer of technology and training to international partners.
“Germany is the first country to receive M-Code GPS capabilities via FMS, leading the way among our allies,” said Greg Wild, director of Navigation and Sensor Systems at BAE Systems. “Accelerating the delivery of M-Code capabilities to allied warfighters around the globe is critical to ensuring trusted PNT in the face of modern threats from our adversaries.”
The receiver has the same form factor as its predecessor, simplifying the M-Code upgrade process for existing military GPS user equipment.
BAE Systems’ military GPS products originate from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where the company is building a new engineering and production facility.
