The companies are GaN specialist Wise-integration and mixed-signal IC maker Leadtrend Technology.
Together that have created LD966L, a 650V system-in-package multi-mode PWM fly-back converter with Leadtrend’s silicon controller die and an enhancement-mode GaN transistor die from Wise.
It comes in an 8x8mm QFN package and its functions include high-voltage soft-start plus protections against: brown-in, brown-out, over-power, over-voltage, and short-circuit.
The start-up circuit works up to 700V and operation is quasi-resonant and up 227kHz – frequency jitter can be turned on to spread the EMI spectrum.
Regulation is from secondary-side monitoring via an opto-isolator (see diagram) and there is a built-in X-capacitor discharge circuit.
“The SiP has passed 1,000 hours of operating life tests,” according to Wise.
An evaluation board (LD966LGQALVE), implements an ac-dc PSU that peaks at 93% efficiency and 22.7W/in3
Fabless Wise-Integration is the French company, founded in 2020 and recently the recipient of €15m Series B funding round. It use TSMC to make its GaN, and other products include a 32bit, MCU-based ac-dc digital controller for PSUs up to 7kW.
Founded in 2002, Leadtrend is based in Taiwan and produces ac-dc primary and secondary side controllers.
