Kyocera DSCC 25007 stacked ceramic capacitors

‘DSCC 25007 Mini BME Stacks’ combine multiple 2220-size capacitors with X7R characteristics (from its MIL-PRF-32535 range) using a legged lead-frame, have base metal electrodes, and are 100% Group A tested.

100% Group A and Group B testing is available for demanding designs with T-level requirements, added Kyocera.

They are “designed to satisfy the need for compact and lightweight high-CV SMT capacitors in high-reliability military, aerospace and space applications”, it said.

The parts are made in a DLA-approved, MIL-PRF-32535 qualified facility and are traceable.  and subjected to rigorous testing to ensure high reliability and performance in extreme conditions and harsh environments — specifically 100% Group A testing or

The first parts releases have two capacitors stacked horizontally, and either have J-leads with two large feet that mostly match the solder footprint of a 2220 SMD ceramic capacitor (see photo), or two large ‘L’ feet, or four smaller feet in J or L configuration.

All feet are tin-Pb plated.

Size is 7.5mm high from the bottom of the feet to the top of that stack, 5.4mm wide, and 7.2mm long in the shorter (J-lead) versions.

There are nine capacitance values between 8.2 and 47µF (±20% tolerance).

Operation is across -55 to +125°C and up to 25, 50 or 100V. Later parts may differ.

In the pipeline are parts with three chips stacked horizontally, and parts with three, five or 10 chips stacked vertically.

The data sheet can be found here – see page nine for the planned stacks up to 10 long.

Use is foreseen in power supply input and output filtering.

AVX has been stacking capacitors for a long time – here in 2008, for example
