“The commercial IHLL-1008AB-1Z and Automotive Grade IHLP-1008ABEZ-5A achieve the same performance as the next-smallest IHLP inductor in a 55 % smaller footprint, while offering operating temperatures up to +165°C, a wider range of inductance values, and lower dc resistance,” according to the company.
Offering inductance values from 0.33 to 4.7µH (see table), the commercial part terminals are plated on the bottom only, enabling a smaller land pattern for smaller PCBs.
Automotive parts have terminals plated on the bottom and sides, increasing strength against mechanical shock by allowing the formation of a solder fillet, which also eases optical solder joint inspection.
Inside, the body is powdered iron that encapsulates the windings – eliminating air gaps and magnetically shielding against crosstalk to nearby components, said Vishay, which continued that the soft saturation curve aids stability across operating temperature and rated current.
Flat wire is used in the coil, which extends out and becomes the component leads.
“Laser stripping, followed by an electrode plating process ensures ease of solderability and the ability to withstand repeated thermal cycling for maximum reliability,” said Vishay.
Applications are expected in dc-dc converters, noise suppression and filtering, including in systems including for braking, ADAS and lidar for automotive types.
