KKR bought Calsonic Kansei fom Nissan in 2016 for $4.5 billion and bought 
Magneti Marelli from Fiat Chrysler in 2019 for about $7 billion, merged the two companies under the Marelli name and loaded it up with $9.5 billion of debt which Marelli had to service by selling off bits and pieces and cost-cutting.
Marelli’s debt now stands at $4.5 billion.
Last year Marelli’s key customer, Nissan, which accounts for 30% of Marelli’s sales. had a really bad year, hitting Marelli badly.
Various arrenpts to reach agreements with creditors have failed and
Marelli’s plan now is to find someone to invest in rebuilding its business while continuing operations, with its assets preserved under court protection.
