Long-time TSMC customer MediaTek will be using an upgraded version of Intel’s 22nm process now dubbed Intel16.

“MediaTek has long adopted a multi-sourcing strategy,” says MediaTek svp N S Tsai, “we have an existing 5G data card business partnership with Intel, and now extend our relationship to manufacturing smart edge devices through Intel Foundry Services.”


In previous forays into the foundry business Intel has denied its customers access to the latest processes and to Intel’s EDA tools – confining them to legacy nodes and third party EDA software.

Now, IFS says that Intel 3 will be available to customers in H2 2023 and Intel 18A (its 2nm process) in H2 2024.

Intel4 will not be available for foundry customers.
