The founder and chairman of MediaTek, Ming-Kai Tsai (pictured), will be presented with the Noyce Medal – the semiconductor industry’s highest honour – at the IEEE Honors Ceremony, which will be held May 3, 2024 in Boston.

Tsai founded MediaTek in 1997 and has grown it to an $18 billion revenue company rivalling Qualcomm in capability.

MediaTek’s UK investments will stretch over the next five years and will be focussed on Uk startups. The company already has UK offices in Cambridge and Maidstone.

Previous winners of the Noyce Medal include Wilf Corrigan, Morris Chang, Luc Van den hove, Tsugio Makimoto and Pasquale Pistorio.

Robert Noyce founded both Fairchild and Intel and co-invented the chip.
