Defense technology firm, Teledyne FLIR Defense, has launched its Rogue 1 loitering munition drone.

According to the firm, Rogue 1 is described as a “next-generation, rapidly deployed, and optionally lethal vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL)” drone designed to assist armed forces in performing precision strikes. Specifically, it is intended for knocking out stationary armored targets, soft-skinned vehicles and dismounted threats.

An important feature of the Rogue 1 is its fuzing system. The company explained that this system makes the drone recoverable in the event it disengages or the mission is aborted, thanks to the fuzing system’s “one-of-a-kind” mechanical interrupt features.

Further, Rogue 1 also features electro-optical and FLIR Boson 640+ thermal cameras that offer long-range day/night reconnaissance and surveillance. This sensor and warhead configuration, Teledynne FLIR explained, allows for precision targeting.

Operators can also attach modular payloads — including explosively formed penetrator (efp), forward fragmenting (shotgun-like burst) or non-lethal trainer — to the Rogue 1 for specific missions with lethal effects intended for assorted target types.

Rogue 1 has a 30-minute flight time and is capable of achieving burst speeds of more than 70 mph and an estimated range of more than six miles.
