It is available through Review Display Systems (RDS). Thick glass cover lenses are specified in applications where health and safety regulations require the food industry as well as public information terminals and kiosks which can be exposed to extreme temperatures and impacts. A thick cover lens adds to the weight of the end product but the Polym Touch composite is half the weight of a glass cover of an equivalent size.

The polymer composite cover lens is claimed to improve impact resistance while still meeting the requirements of the IK10 drop ball test rating; this is equivalent to a 5kg mass dropped from 400mm above the impact surface.

The composite cover lens is suitable for small and medium size products that need to be light in weight as well as durable and rugged, said Justin Coleman, display business manager, RDS. “The new Polym Touch cover lens solution offers greater scope and versatility for new PCap touch designs.”

It also has anti-UV properties and meets the ASTM G154-Cycle 1QUV 1000 hours standard for measuring accelerated outdoor weathering conditions. It is able to withstand UV ray damage without any additional processing. Operating temperature range is -30° to +60°C.

The material can be applied to AMT p-cap designs and supports the PenMount P2 series (Microchip IC), PenMount K1 series (ILITEK IC), and AE series (EETI IC) touch controllers.

AMT Polym Touch measuring up to 362mm x 216mm for 15-inch displays, and 1.0mm, 1.5mm or 2.0mm thick, is available from Review Display Systems.
