The units are pre-assembled with CM4s with up to 8Gbyte of ram and up to 32Gbyte of eMMC memory, plus an M.2 PCIe SSD can be added for further expansion.

For extra security, Zymbit’s Secure Compute Module can be fitted instead of the Compute Module 4, which itself contains a Compute Module 4, on top of hardware that provides secure boot, file system encryption, and verification of system integrity including physical tamper sensors.

There are two versions of Strato Pi Max, both equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE (via an optional antenna kit), dual Ethernet ports, dual USB ports and an isolated RS-485 port.

Sfera Strato-Pi-Max-XSThe larger of the two (above, 160mm wide = nine DIN units) is Strato Pi Max XL, which can accept up to four expansion modules, or for only one expansion module there is the smaller (106mm, six units ) Strato Pi Max XS (left).

There are four internal expansion boards to choose from (below): one with CAN and dual RS-485 interfaces, another with RS-232 and RS-485 interfaces, the third that provides an uninterruptable power supply in conjunction with an external Pb-acid battery and a fourth offering digital IO. More are in the pipeline.

The digital IO version has seven current-sinking 24V IEC 61131-2 inputs with diagnostics, and seven 24V 640mA outputs that can be configured as high-side switches or push-pull drivers.

Within the controllers, a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller provides housekeeping including a watchdog, and can be programmed by the user.

“Strato Pi Max complies with all relevant industry standards for electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility and sustainability,” said Sfera.
