Kona Right angle power connector additions

“The Kona Horizontal lineup includes nine right-angled 4, 3 and 2pin connectors for board mounting or board-and-panel mounting,” according to the company. “EMI shielding and housing rear-caps for each connector have also been created.”

Single pin right-angle cable female and 90° male connectors are further additions.

Kona is a high-end connector family, with multi-point gold-plated beryllium copper contacts for durability and corrosion-resistance. As well as flying-lead and PCB versions, the board-and-panel versions solder to a PCB at the same time as attaching to a panel using screws.

Contacts are individually shrouded and recessed, and housing are polarised against incorrect mating. Plastic parts, including the new housing rear caps, are PPS (polyphenylene sulfide), and all parts are rated to work over -65 to +150°C.

The EMI shields are manufactured from an aluminum alloy to keep weigh down (6.8 and 9.4g) and add 2.2mm to connector height.

“The Kona range is among our most advanced connector series and is used for extreme environments,” said Harwin v-p of products Ryan Smart. “The addition of right-angled products will allow us to target an increased set of applications.”

Demonstration kits have also been created.
