Samsung attributed the loss to a one-time inventory cost as US export controls led to unsold AI chips for restricted China customers,
The foundry business is expecting more big orders after Tesla gave it an order worth $16 .5 billion for its Taylor, Texas fab (pictured).
“Building on this milestone, we anticipate securing additional orders from large customers,” said Samsung vp Noh Mi-jung at the Q2 earnings call earlier today. The fab is due to come on-stream next year.
Samsung said that in H2 the foundry business will ramp up mass production of the2nm process.
Samsung said it expects a chip recovery in H2.
Samsung said that the supply of HBM3E chips has been growing faster than demand, which would affect pricing. It is sampling HBM4. which is due for volume production next year.
