MDA says the deal will strengthen its position in the growing market for digital satellite communications systems.
For its part, SatixFy Communications said it was a strategic transaction to further cooperation between the two companies.
The plan is for the SSS team to “collaborate closely” with MDA’s own Satellite Systems business in Montreal, “to advance MDA’s new digital satellite product offering, adding complementary digital payload expertise and capacity”.
“The acquisition of SatixFy’s digital payload division advances MDA’s satellite systems strategy as we continue to invest and expand in next generation satellite technology and talent to meet growing customer demand,” said Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA.
“MDA and SatixFy have worked together to advance our digital satellite technology solutions and our teams are well acquainted, highly complementary and collaborative. This acquisition is a natural next step in solidifying and strengthening our market position and addressing customer demand as we continue to capitalize on the growth in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication market.”
On official closing of the deal, the Farnborough-based SSS will be integrated into MDA UK, the parent company’s existing UK subsidiary, which is located in the Harwell Campus, Didcot.
“We are pleased with the continued increase in our revenue,” said Nir Barkan, Acting CEO of SatixFy Communications, “which demonstrates that Satixfy is growing in accordance with our plans, while continuing our investment in R&D in order to maintain our edge and advance our satellite communication systems and chipsets.”
“We recently took the strategic decision to focus our satellite business on our core competencies of development of groundbreaking chipsets supporting multi beam digital antennas and on-board processing for the space industry and advanced ground terminals.”
SatixFy Communications is headquartered in Rehovot, Israel and MDA in Brampton, Ontario.
