The number of warehouse employees fell to its lowest level in over a year as companies cut payrolls amid an expected downturn in the economy, according to media reports and federal labor data released April 7.

Nearly 50,000 jobs have been lost by warehousing companies since June, when overstocked retailers began paring inventories, according an analysis of the data by The Wall Street Journal.
A total of 1.91 million jobs were available in the sector in March, the fewest number since January 2022, when 1.88 million workers were employed.
The decline in warehousing came despite an overall increase in jobs of 236,000 in a cooling labor market, according to the data.
