The project is ‘Verde’, and the inverter will have a sinewave output.
QPT uses microwave design techniques to harness GaN’s lightening-fast switching behaviour, as an alternative to slowing the gate drive.
“Our system technology enables GaN to be used for high-power, high-performance applications, overcoming the thermal and EMI problems that have stopped GaN being used in automotive in the past,” said QTP CEO Rupert Baines. “We are already talking with automotive companies who would like to partner with us.”
Ram Innovations is also a member Verde.
“This APC investment will accelerate the technology to market by at least two years,” said RAM Innovations CEO Peter Green. “This project will create a demonstrator to be shown at Cenex Expo at UTAC Millbrook UK in September 2025.”
