For judge, Andy Sellars, strategic development director, Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, feels more can be done to encourage women into the industry and become our future leaders. “These awards have a wide variety of categories, so there is an opportunity for women to apply at all stages of their career and where they have made a positive and invaluable contribution to different projects, initiatives and fields across the electronics landscape,” he says.
There is often a reticence by women to promote themselves. Karen Holland, CEO, XCAM, is a judge on this year’s panel. She encourages everyone in the electronics industry to be a part: “I think that women tend not to be inclined to promote themselves and their achievements; perhaps we need to encourage male co-workers to nominate their female colleagues,” she suggests.
“My advice would be to embrace the opportunity, unabashedly, celebrate your accomplishments, however small they seem to you as your experience and successes can inspire others,” advises Dr Nicola Thorn, CEO and founder, AND Technology Research, a judge at this year’s awards.
